About Me

Turning complex claims into clear paths forward.

I'm Chris Mills, a VA-accredited attorney based in the National Capital Region and founder of Mills Veterans Law LLC. After being denied my own VA claims following active duty, I committed our practice to helping veterans navigate the same system I experienced firsthand. At Mills Veterans Law LLC we focuse on providing clear strategy and guidance for VA claims and appeals, helping clients move forward with confidence and purpose.

The Process

Getting Started Is Simple

Schedule a Complimentary Consultation

Book a free 30-minute consultation to discuss your VA claim or appeal. During this call, we’ll review your situation, answer initial questions, and determine whether legal representation may be beneficial. You are encouraged to speak with multiple attorneys to find the right fit

Evaluate Your Options

Following our conversation, if it appears I may be able to assist, you will receive an intake form to provide additional details about your case. This allows us to assess your claim more thoroughly and determine the most appropriate path forward.

Retain Representation & Begin

If we decide to move forward together, you will receive a written fee agreement and representation letter outlining the scope of services. Representation begins only after these documents are signed. From there, we will begin building a clear strategy for your claim or appeal.

FAQ

Your Questions, Answered

Q Do I need an attorney for my VA claim or appeal?

You are not required to have an attorney to file a VA claim or appeal. However, the process can be complex, especially when dealing with denials, supplemental claims, or appeals. An attorney can help develop a clear strategy, identify evidence gaps, and guide your case through the process.

Q How much do you charge?

In most cases, representation for VA disability claims and appeals is provided on a contingency fee basis. This means you do not pay any upfront fees. Fees are typically a percentage of any past-due benefits recovered. All fees and terms are clearly outlined in a written agreement before representation begins.

Q What happens during the consultation?

During your complimentary 30-minute consultation, we will discuss your VA claim or appeal, review your current situation, and determine whether legal assistance may be beneficial. This is also an opportunity for you to ask questions and decide if the firm is the right fit for you.

Q How long does the VA claims or appeals process take?

Timelines vary depending on the type of claim or appeal and the VA’s current backlog. Some claims may take several months, while appeals can take significantly longer. While no attorney can guarantee speed or outcomes, having a clear strategy can help avoid unnecessary delays.

Q What types of cases do you handle?

Mills Veterans Law LLC focuses on veterans’ benefits matters, including VA disability claims, supplemental claims, higher-level reviews, and appeals. During your consultation, we will determine whether your case falls within the scope of representation.

Q Does contacting you create an attorney-client relationship?

No. Contacting Mills Veterans Law LLC—whether through this website, email, or consultation—does not create an attorney-client relationship. Representation begins only after a written agreement is signed by both parties.
